Adam Cook isn't a name the fitness world knows yet. At 34, he splits his time between Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Richmond, Virginia, running a commercial fishing operation and raising three kids. Three years ago, a single photograph a friend took of him — unposed, unguarded — showed him a version of himself he didn't recognize. He walked into a gym that same week and hasn't stopped. In seven weeks, he steps on a bodybuilding stage in Mexico for the first time. We asked him to walk us through it.

Adam Cook: I'm 34 years old, living between Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Richmond, Virginia.
MA: Your daughters come up a lot in your posts. Tell us about your family.
AC: I have two daughters and one child I raised since she was three — they're 3, 6, and 14. Me and their mother are no longer together, but it's still a good co-parenting situation. My work takes more time from them than I'd like, but they give my life meaning and purpose.
